PANTELLERIA

 

5 days of no WiFi, no schedule and no deadlines is exactly what I needed to recharge my batteries and reconnect with my soul. This was my first time in Pantelleria - a tiny, volcanic island of Sicily near Tunisia. I had an overwhelming sense of belonging as soon as the plane landed after the 40-minute flight from Palermo. It all seemed so familiar to me, making it easy to lasciarmi andare (let myself go). 

Thank you to my dear friend Linda Sarris for organizing the lovely perfume and essences retreat at the charming Le Case del Principe. She is an extraordinary chef and a fellow American who is crazy enough to live in Palermo. She created magic recipes from simple local ingredients that she picked herself - my favorite dish was the veggie meatballs made with wild fennel, pine nuts and raisins. 

Every so often my mind would drift to worries - both work and personal - and she's give me a friendly reminder to return to the present and enjoy the beauty that surrounded me. 

Now I pack for my next trip to Vicenza and Milan. Lots of rain is in the forecast, so I'll be bringing the bright energy of Pantelleria with me to the North.
